Chinese characters are always encoded as UTF-8, which modern scanners read correctly. The ECI marker states the encoding explicitly; leave it off unless a specific scanner shows garbled text.

Will Your QR Code Work in China?

A QR code scans the same everywhere — but the link inside it has to open. Many services that Western campaigns rely on are blocked in mainland China: Google (including Google Forms and Google Drive), YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, X and others. A trade fair flyer that links to a Google Form, or a product label that links to a YouTube video, leads Chinese visitors to an error page.

This generator checks every link against a list of blocked services and warns you before you print. It also flags link shorteners, which add a point of failure and can be unreliable in China, unencrypted http:// links, and UTM tracking parameters, which Baidu may index as duplicates of your page.

The landing page matters as much as the link. QR traffic is almost entirely mobile, and a page that loads Google Fonts, reCAPTCHA or embedded YouTube videos can stall in China even if the domain itself is reachable.

Static QR Codes That Never Expire

Many "free" QR code generators create dynamic codes: the code contains a short link to the provider's server, which redirects to your page. That lets them show scan statistics — and lets them switch the code off when a trial ends or a subscription lapses. Printed packaging and brochures then point to a dead link or an upgrade page.

The codes created here are static: your link, text or contact details are stored in the code itself. There is no redirect through our server, no account, and nothing that can expire. The code works as long as the destination exists.

Track QR Code Scans Without UTM Parameters

Want to know how many people scanned the code on your booth poster — without a third-party dynamic QR service, and without UTM parameters that Baidu may index as duplicate pages? Use a dedicated path on your own domain:

  1. Create a short path such as /qr/canton-fair-2026 that redirects to the real landing page. Use a temporary (302) redirect if you might change the destination later.
  2. Put that short path in the QR code — short links also make simpler codes that scan more easily.
  3. Keep it out of search engines: disallow /qr/ in robots.txt, so Baidu only knows the clean landing page.
  4. Count the scans in your server logs or in the redirect script itself.

The result is your own "dynamic" QR code: trackable and changeable, with no provider that can switch it off.

WeChat and Alipay QR Codes

WeChat contact codes, WeChat Official Account codes, Mini Program codes and payment codes (WeChat Pay, Alipay) can't be created with any outside QR generator — they are issued by the platforms themselves, inside the WeChat app or on the WeChat Official Accounts Platform, and in Alipay for payments. Download those codes from the platform and use them as they are.

Use this generator for everything around them: your website and landing pages, bilingual business cards, booth Wi-Fi, brochures and contact details.

Chinese Characters and Bilingual Business Cards

QR codes can hold Chinese text, but only if it is encoded correctly. Tools that use the wrong encoding produce codes that scan as garbled characters (mojibake) instead of 张伟 or 扫码了解更多. This generator always encodes text as UTF-8, which current phones and WeChat read correctly, with an optional ECI marker for scanners that need it.

For trade fairs such as the Canton Fair or CIIE, the business card option creates a vCard with both the Chinese and the English name, job title, company, phone numbers, email, website, address and WeChat ID. One scan saves the contact — and your Chinese counterpart can find it by either name.

How Big Should a QR Code Be?

The rule of thumb: the code should be about one tenth as wide as the distance it is scanned from. Dense codes with a lot of content need to be printed larger — the preview shows a minimum size for your code.

WhereScanning distanceMinimum width
Business card, label15–20 cm2 cm
Flyer, brochure, packaging20–30 cm2.5–3 cm
Poster, table display1 m10 cm
Booth wall, roll-up banner2–3 m20–30 cm
Large sign5 m and more50 cm and more

Keep the white border (the "quiet zone") around the code — the downloads include it. Use a dark code on a light background: inverted, light-on-dark codes fail on many scanners. And add a short caption: a code that says what it does gets more scans than a bare square.

QR Codes for China Campaigns: Checklist

A printed QR code can't be fixed after the print run. Check these points before the files go to the printer.

  1. Link to something that opens in China

No Google Forms, YouTube, Instagram or WhatsApp links. Use your own website, a WeChat Official Account article or a Chinese platform instead.

  2. Test the landing page on a phone in China

Load it on mobile data inside mainland China, in a normal browser and in the WeChat browser. Blocked fonts, scripts and videos can stall a page that works perfectly elsewhere. Build-stage checks →

  3. Use a short path you control

A redirect such as /qr/fair-2026 on your own domain keeps the code simple, lets you change the destination and count scans, and keeps tracking parameters away from Baidu. How it works ↑

  4. Write the caption in Chinese

扫码了解更多 or 扫码领取资料 tells Chinese visitors what they get. Add English for international audiences.

  5. Print big enough, with contrast and a quiet zone

About one tenth of the scanning distance, dark on light, with the white border intact. Test-scan a printed proof with several phones, including WeChat's scanner.

  6. Make the landing page findable later

People who scanned at the fair search for you on Baidu weeks later. A page that ranks for your brand and product terms in Chinese catches them. Baidu SEO →

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The codes are static: your link, text or contact details are stored in the code itself, with no redirect through our server. They work as long as the destination exists — there is no account, trial or subscription that could switch them off.

No. WeChat contact, Official Account, Mini Program and payment codes are issued by WeChat itself — inside the app or on the WeChat Official Accounts Platform — and Alipay codes by Alipay. Download those from the platform. Use this generator for your website, landing pages, business cards, Wi-Fi and other content.
Yes, if they are encoded correctly. This generator encodes Chinese text as UTF-8, which current phones and the WeChat scanner read correctly. An optional ECI marker states the encoding explicitly for scanners that need it.
About one tenth of the scanning distance: 2 cm on a business card, 10 cm on a poster scanned from 1 metre, 20–30 cm on a booth wall. Codes with a lot of content need more space — the preview shows a minimum size for your code. Keep the white border around it.
M (15%) suits most print work. Use L for the smallest code on screens, Q for outdoor use or curved surfaces, and H if part of the code may be covered or worn. Higher levels make the code denser, so it needs to be printed larger.
Put a short path on your own domain in the code, such as /qr/fair-2026, and redirect it to your landing page. Count the hits in your server logs, keep /qr/ out of search engines with robots.txt, and change the destination whenever you like. That avoids third-party redirects and UTM parameters that Baidu may index as duplicates.
Yes, it is free and needs no sign-up. Your content is only used to create the code and is not stored or logged.
