How this converter works
The tool scans your text character by character and replaces every Traditional Chinese character (繁體字) with its standard Simplified counterpart (简体字), using a reference table of over 3,200 character pairs. Characters that are identical in both scripts, along with all punctuation, numbers, and non-Chinese text, are left unchanged.
This is a character-level converter, not a full localization tool — but going from Traditional to Simplified is the more reliable direction of the two. Simplified Chinese was created by merging some Traditional characters together, so converting back to Simplified rarely requires guessing at meaning the way Simplified-to-Traditional conversion sometimes does. For anything you plan to publish, we'd still recommend a native-speaker review, mainly to check regional vocabulary rather than character accuracy — see our note on conversion vs. localization below.
Converting isn't the same as localizing
Swapping characters gets the script right, but Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong often use different words for the same thing — not just different characters. A few examples:
| Concept | Taiwan (Traditional) | Mainland (Simplified) |
|---|---|---|
| Software | 軟體 | 软件 |
| Internet | 網路 | 网络 |
| Taxi | 計程車 | 出租车 |
| Video | 影片 | 视频 |
Character conversion alone won't catch these — the sentence will be technically correct Simplified script but will still read as translated-from-Taiwan-or-Hong-Kong to a Mainland reader. If you're preparing content to actually publish for the Mainland market, our Baidu SEO and Chinese AI-SEO/GEO teams can review terminology as well as script.

Traditional to Simplified conversion is highly reliable and, for nearly every character, fully deterministic. This is because Simplified Chinese was created by merging some Traditional characters together, so going the other way rarely requires guessing — unlike Simplified to Traditional conversion, which can occasionally be ambiguous. A native speaker review is still recommended before publishing anything important, mainly to check regional vocabulary rather than character accuracy.
-
No. This tool converts characters only (繁體字 to 简体字), not regional vocabulary. Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mainland China sometimes use different words for the same concept, not just different characters — for example "software" is 軟體 in Taiwan usage and 软件 in Mainland usage. Converting characters alone will not fix vocabulary differences, which is why script conversion is not the same as full localization.
